Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions ranged 15 And linen spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
