Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
