The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
