The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
