The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 But We see it very near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Eager to roast; 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
