Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And chosen goblets. 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
