Truly it is the revelation of the Lord of all Being, 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 (a revelation) in clear Arabic language, 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein. 199 Thus do We cause (unbelief) to enter the hearts of sinners. 200 They will not believe in it to the extent that they see the painful punishment. 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are unaware, 202 Then they will say: "Can we be respited?" 203 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 of what avail to them will be all their past enjoyments? 207 We never destroyed a village that did not have warners 208 By way of reminder; and We never are unjust. 209 And the satans have not brought it down. 210 It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able. 211 indeed they are debarred from overhearing it. 212 So call not upon another god with Allah, lest you be of those who are punished. 213 And warn thou thy clan, the nearest ones. 214 And lower thou thy wing unto those who follow thee as believers. 215 If they disobey you, tell them, "I condemn your disobedient deeds". 216 And rely on the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 and sees your movements among those who prostrate themselves: 219 For it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. 220 Should I tell you to whom the satans come? 221 They descend upon every calumniator, sinner. 222 Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they may have heard of the unseen from the angels), and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, the erring follow them, 224 Do you not see that they wander about in every valley 225 And they speak what they do not do? 226 Save those that believe, and do righteous deeds, and remember God oft, and help themselves after being wronged; and those who do wrong shall surely know by what overturning they will be overturned. 227
