Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
