Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
