Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Join My servants. 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
