Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
