Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
