Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
