And assuredly We have created human being from ringing clay of loam moulded. 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together: 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense." 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 Allah said: "Then, verily, you are of those reprieved, 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 Iblis said, "Lord, because you have caused me to go astray, I shall make earthly things attractive to (people) and mislead all of them 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 "And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
