Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
