Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn; 1 and the ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
