Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
