Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Join My servants. 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
