Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and the ten nights! 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 The night as it advances, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
