Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Join My servants. 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
