Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
