The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 in which you are now living 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
