Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
