The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
