The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
