Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
