Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
