The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He (Allah) feared not the consequences thereof. 15
