The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
