The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
