The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
