The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 And the apostle of God had to tell them: "This is God's she-camel, let her drink." 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
