The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
