The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it envelops; 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
