a large group of the earlier people 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
