The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
