The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
