The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
