The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
