The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
