The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
