The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
