The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
