The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
