The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
