The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or orders piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
