Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh, "You believed in him before I gave you permission. Indeed, this is a conspiracy which you conspired in the city to expel therefrom its people. But you are going to know. 123 most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and then I shall most certainly crucify you, in great numbers, all together!" 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
