The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels if what you say is true". 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 If We opened a gate in the heaven and they kept ascending through it, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15
