The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No people can hasten or delay the term already fixed for them. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
