The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 We never destroyed a village whose term had not already been decreed. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Thus do We make it to enter into the hearts of the guilty; 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 yet would they say, 'Our eyes have been dazzled; nay, we are a people bewitched!' 15
